Artist Reccomendation: The Stupendium
Would you like to support a pansexual non-binary artist? Do you enjoy nerd fuel songs based on popular games? Do you enjoy deeply extrapolating philosophy from popular media? Do you enjoy genre ambiguous music? Do you enjoy what I'd call the wittiest and smoothest flow of lyrics ever? Come on over and enjoy The Stupendium.
My favorite song of this favorite artist is titled "Open the sky" and based on the game: Stray. A techno-ish pop song that focuses on the plea of the 'people' or robots to the main character, the cat, to save them. It also explores the humanity of these robots and opens up the topic of how we think in comparison to artificial intelligence. I especially liked this because I'm personally interested in discussions of the human mind and, in this case, emulating that human mind.
My 2nd fave is "THE FINE PRINT" based on the game: outer worlds. As the game focuses on exploited workers in space, the stupendium uses this as an angle to tell the larger story. Specifically the exploitative systems in play that allow this abuse of people. "There's no I in team but there's con in economy" In a kind of funky steampunk-ish music.
Shelter from the storm is another golden one based on frostpunk. The original was actually made by The Stupendium in 2018 but it was remastered by them in 2022. Focuses in the hopeful labor of the residents in frostpunk. With the tempo and beat reflecting such, it has the same productivity-inducing effects on me as sea shantys.
I'm a very big fan of the LGBTQIA+ community being treated as something that's normal. And with an artist that literally got bored of gender, inclusivity is ensured. They have songs such as the previously trending "VENDING MACHINE OF LOVE" which explicitly mentioned sexualities such as asexual, demisexual, and pansexual, something brave because some listeners would turn away just at the mention of these words. Shine through is also LGBTQ friendly as it focuses on chosen family, something very common in the community, also it's based on a gay game called life is strange. They also put some lyrics into the song FRAGMENTS that made some fans assume it was about being trans, and they confirmed that, although not completely about being trans, it's about coming to term with one's identity.
These are just my favorites but there are a lot of songs, all consistent in having incredibly articulated and genius lyrics by The Stupendium themself. Special mentions include: wool over our eyes, the house always wins, rest employed, and that recent genshin impact song that they made. Yeah it's a recent 7 minute song where The Stupendium raps the entirety of the genshin impact lore, mind you the lore consists of volumes upon volumes upon volumes of books, manga, comics, and other media that contains the many stories behind the long history of each and every place in the vast world of genshin impact, making a song discussing 7it is actually quite impressive, they did it again.
So informative!! I'll definitely try to listen to these songs<3
